The Kiwanis Club of Roanoke Island, an organization dedicated to supporting and serving the Dare County community, has recently demonstrated their commitment to Dare County’s youngest children with a generous donation of $500 to Children & Youth Partnership to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Through their generosity, the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke Island is helping to provide books to young children, ages birth through five, while inspiring children to read and explore the special new books that they receive in the mail each month.

With exposure to books and reading being one of the strongest predictors of later reading success in school, this donation from the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke Island is helping to set the stage for healthy growth and development for Dare County’s youngest citizens. When titles such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Night Night, Forest Friends arrive in the mailbox, the excitement about reading grows among both the children and their parents.

There are currently 1,025 children enrolled in Imagination Library in Dare County, and both individual and group donations are welcomed. A donation of $27 will sponsor one child to receive quality, age-appropriate books for a year’s worth of reading. For more information on how to become a sponsor, or how families living in Dare County can enroll their child in Imagination Library, please call 441-0614 or visit our website at www.darekids.org.
